I pulled up to a major intersection, here in Fort Collins, and by the time the light had changed there were 8 different cyclists facing varying directions at the intersection. I was behind 2 other cyclists, heading South, when a 4th cyclist pulled up and said, "WOW". Only he and I were wearing cyclist clothing.
Normally, I'm alone at this intersection, or at most, there is one other cyclist in sight. My son also commented on how he is seeing more and more cyclists, even though it is starting to get cold here. I hope this trend continues. There's a "Ride the Fat" event here in Fort Collins this weekend, and Bike Fort Collins is expecting 2000 riders to cycle down the major thoroughfare - College Avenue. ---- Jim Gagnepain http://home.comcast.net/~oil_free_and_happy/

Well, the US does have more total wealth. That's mostly because our corporations take wealth from other areas and transfer it here. It does tend to [censored] much of the world though. It's called imperialism. You may have read about it in school.

I spent a day or two in Amsterdam in 1972. One of my memories is watching the ferry behind the main train station dock, and dozens of bicycles would come pouring off the ferry, with one or two cars looking very lost in the middle of all those bicycles. mark

No. The incredibly [censored] American education system does not go into nearly that much detail [1]. We be lucky to learn that there was such a thing as WWII. Ask 100 American high schoolers which nations fought on which sides of WWII and see what happens.

Holland has a significant immigrant population. Immigration is a huge issue there as it is in the rest of Europe.
