  1. Hello,

I'm getting ready to purchase a Motobecane Record. I understand there is some animosity towards this brand (or the retailer that I guess manufactures it), but I'm not interested in discussing that (if at all possible).

    My questions:

I know very little about the various brands and qualities of bike components. How do the components of this bike stack up? It looks like it has mostly Shimano parts for the drivetrain. From what I've read, this seems to be a quality brand, although they have lots of levels as far as quality? How much does the quality matter? I'm not interested in racing, only in riding for pleaseure and physical fitness.

Does anyone know how much this bike weighs? I saw a review of the 2002 version of this bike that mentioned 25 lbs. Does that sound about right?

I'm also trying to decide which frame size to get. I sat on some bikes at my LBS, but they only had a few and none even came close to fitting. I'm 5'9, 150lbs with a 30" inseam. Would I be better off on a 52 or 54cm frame?

Anything else (about the bike) that I should be aware of? If it matters, my intentions are to ride about 1 hour a day, 5 days a week.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. OK, well I went with 54, seems to be about right. I guess I'll look for another forum for advice.

  3. Your bike shop is who should fit you if you do not know what you are doing. From your height and inseam...(a small part of what is necessary for proper fit) then I would guess the 54 should be right.
