  1. Rode 40 mi. today - on a road bike. My first time ever and I was always at the end of the peloton.
🙂 It definitely is a lot more convenient (for me anyway) but definitely NOT as much fun (again for
me) as MTB. I'm considering getting a road bike though for occas- sions where trails near me are
wet and closed. I need to get in shape for the Tsali endurance ride - I want to ride bot Lef and
    Right Loop.

I just put some street/fireroad tires on my old bike. Good for road rides on wet days. And I can
ride on the same roads as the die-hard roadies and not feel like I'm trying to be one of them.

Don't worry. It'll be more fun once you're at the front of the peloton. I love riding with a bunch
on the road, but I'm so fedup with all the traffic around us constantly. That is one of the main
reasons I got myself a FS bike just recently. BTW I think everybody needs at least three bikes.
    Road, MTB and city.

I had a roadie pull up next to me at the lights, smile, and say 'hi, how's it goin' the other day. I
think it's time I took the slicks off the rigid steel MTB - seems to be confusing some
    people.........

Don't you think that you'd just forgotten to snap your visors on to the helmet?

My helmet has no visor or even a place for one. I had very un-cool looking, most assuredly MTB style
'goggles' on too, not GRS. No visible lycra. Musta been the rigid steel frame and slick tyres. ;-(

I said at *least* three. Personally I'm too old for a BMX. Bunnyhopping onto curbs is about as far
    as I go 😉

It was absolutely the lack of visors then. Are you sure you're not really a roadie? You know, deep
down inside. You may think it's the slicks and frame but a real roadie knows another one from the
more subtle signs. Like not even having fasteners for a visor. This is starting to sound serious.

That's the beauty of a mountain bike, IMO. You don't need any other bike. Group rides are about
the only reason I can see for a road bike. Aside from that, you can do perfectly good road rides
on a mountain bike with the right tires. City bike? Again, a mountain bike is the answer. No other
bike is as well suited to urban riding as a mountain bike. Just don't take your eyes off of it for
    very long.

No, I am right - I was there.

I am certain. I hate it, riding on the road that is.

Serious? Hell yeah! I don't want any roadies talking to me. Scum o' the earth. Next time, I shall
    fart on them.

That's the problem. I'd never take my Trek 5200 or Klein Adept Pro, downtown or to work. I have a
hybrid, with 5 lbs of locks, for that and it suits commuting just fine.

Not around here - where I live, it's like roadie heaven! Every weekend, hunnerds of 'em collect in
bunches (rest of the time, there's only around 20-50 of 'em gathering........), drinking tea from
tartan flasks, and preparing to assault the highways and byways. They all smile at each other, all
creepy-like. Their evil plans telling in their beady little eyes. I like to ride past them on the
bad [censored] BASE monster, and drop off the grass verges near where they meet up, smiling and being all
nice and cheerful _at_ them. I LOVE WHEN THEY SCOWL AT ME! I fear for if that ever stops........ ;-(

Shaun aRe - Literally, hunnerds of 'em I tells ye!

Ok ok. I'm starting to realize this is a touchy subject. I won't say any more. Don't be surprised

I'm lucky in that we have an enclosed area for bikes where I work. I don't even need to bring a
lock. I don't leave my bike unattended for any length of time anywhere else. A hybrid? Those I
    really don't understand.
