Yes,

clean the cut with metho and fill the cut with "Shoo Goo", allow the cut to close, squeezing out the excess and set. Do a search on "shoo goo" and see where other have done it before. Buy it from Runners World. 😉

Wow... What did you hit to slice a Michelin Carbon like that ?

Just realize that though the cut has been repaired with Shoe Goo (the stuff is awesome I'll admit), the repaired cut is still going to be the weakest point in the tire. Given that the tire is high pressure, I am sure if any failure in the tire were to occur, the cut is where it will be. So I guess it is a matter of waiting a probable failure during a ride or just replacing it and not worry.

Yes its all the way through and the culprit was the neck of a Tooheys extra dry stubbie. 😠

My mates and I used to frequent motorbike rallies years ago... What we did was use bush mechanics;

Silicone the cut, close it, allow to cure overnight...

Next day, silicone a patch on the inside using any flexible rubber...

On your tire, you could cut up an old tube and use that as a patch... Good for a trainer...

The above worked on tubless motorbike tyres... if the silicone is allowed to cure, it should be aces...

Trainer tire only. I wouldn't put my skin on the line with a patched tire/tyre like that.

To patch a tear through the cords I think you need to glue a patch on which has reinforcing cords, not just glue the edges of the cut together.

Imagine cutting a rope in two then gluing it together by butting the cut ends against one another after dabbing them in shoe goo. When you pulled on the rope the goo would fail as if it wasn't there.

I have not tried but have heard of people using a lizard skins frame patch for this purpose. It is composed of carbon fiber and would give the closure some tensile strength. I have patched humbler tires with denim and it worked OK.

The difference in flexibility between patched and unpatched regions may significantly weaken a high pressure tire.

I patched a tire with denim and rubber cement, but on a "park it in the city" type of bike which it hurt to spend money on. My philosophy was to get a few more miles out of it and leave it by the curb.

You seem to of rushed "pell-mell" into your statement.

The tyre is brand friggen new and this happened on the first ride on it.

New tyres ordered yesterday. I don't have a second bike to use it on, but will use it on the trainer IF I can fix it.

IMHO, no matter what anyone could do to that slash,
it'll never be worth the peace of mind that would come with
replacing the "new" yet less than perfect piece of equiptment.

Replacement cost would be about 5000yen.

I see why you'd wanna hold on to it.🙄
