Apparently there was a demonstration by the Tour of Britian riders yesterday
on the Rochester to Canterbury leg after police sent riders the wrong way. I
was just wondering if a cycle lane was involved 🙂

Dunno but I saw them going through a red light or two
;-))
Good coverage on the BB today even it it did clash with the Vuelta.

Dan GregoryMaybe, but not a good advert for the 1st stage of Le Tour next year,
especially as part of the protest was because a few Kent 'Masons'
('dont you know who I am? I am a member of the same lodge as the Chief
Constable"😉 refused to respect the road block and insisted on driving
their cars along the route of the cyclists, thus showing their normal
inbred level of ignorance. It is those kind of "green ink from Tunbridge Wells, Colonel Blimps"
that inhabit Kent which make it the least acceptable county to host a
stage of Le Tour. When they mentioned sport coming to Kent, there was just a grabbing of
guns. -

Depends. Did they end up bouncing along railway ballast on a road to
nowhere? -

you can have a couple of Cat 2 climbs too. Ideal for a sustainable
transport route.--

apparently considered to be a friendly 'hello' to a cyclist.TL

Pointless?? IME, most cyclists appreciate a friendly warning beep from a
motorist as he is about to overtake. Surely a motorist considerate enough
to give a warning beep will also have waited behind the cyclist on a stretch
of road where it is dodgier to overtake, and has selected his overtake for a
safe bit of road to do it on? -

Pointless??Yes, pointless. We can hear them, we can see them and if the wind is
blowing in the right direction, we can smell them as well. And them some
twonk makes a loud noise behind when the cyclist is least expecting it.--

finally you spot them.--

Pointless?? IME, most cyclists appreciate a friendly warning beep from
a
motorist as he is about to overtake.ABSOLUTELY BLOODY NOT!
I have seen two accidents caused by this, one near fatal. Do NOT startle a
cyclist you're about to overtake, /particularly/ if they are young or
inexperienced. Expect them to swerve out towards the middle of the road if
you do.Quoted message said:

How long (in time) did it take for the car to actually overtake the OP? (it
must have been a fair few seconds from the instant the OP was awre the car
was behind him, the actual passing, the car must have been going fairly
slowly if it was going to make a turn, surely? and it passed sufficiently so
that the back of the car was in front of the OP, plus a little more time
actually turning.I've had a car racing past me to try fruitlessly to overtake before
turning left. In my case a loud shout left him stopped in the middle of
the road and overshot his turn but there is no doubt I would have
collected the rear of his car if he had tried the turn and there would
have been no way for me to avoid it other than riding into the verge.--

day.He overtook me whilst I was doing 26 mph (bike computer saying 42kph)
in a 30mph road, and obviously over 30mph was he.1. He gave me about 10cm of clearance during the overtaking manouver.
One wobble and I could have been under his wheels.2. He then had to cut in as he'd chosen to overtake me just before a
pinch point (i.e. a traffic island in the middle of the road). I guess
the left-rear corner of the van got to within 10cm of my front wheel
despite me braking. If I had not been braking he would have knocked me
off.3. He then slammed on the brakes to turn left causing me to brake all
the way down to 5mph. At no point did he even bother to indicate his
intentions. He stopped just after I shouted "You F***ing T**t" and he wound down
the window."If you do that again you are going to kill someone. You absolute
****." said I, struggling to control the fists of death. No response from him, the point had been made, so I carried on. The
adrenaline was pumping and I forgot to note the reg or company name on
the van. However with recent comments in this group I doubt the Police
would have given a [censored] about a cyclists complaint about a motorist. The next day, not 1/2 mile from that very spot a local yoof took it
upon himself to discard his half eaten apple by launching it at me as I
passed[1]. It missed my front wheel by inches. I don't think he was
expecting me to stop and come back to confront him. To be fair though,
he did catch what I threw at him quite squarely.-Alex
[1] He on pavement, I on road. 5m between us at least.

I would wholeheartedly agree with you, you were somewhat slighted by others,
totally unnecessary. But not ALL car/van/lorry/bus drivers are "knobs"....
neither are MOST cyclists!!! -

Ah, the joys of assertive riding :-)maybe, and it is probably pleasing when it all comes together. But what
happens when things come unstuck?? when you stop and confront yoof, who then
produces a very sharp knife, for example???(But some of your number would consider me stupid to be even thinking of
this possibility...)
