I commute to my college and it is going to start getting dark during my commute times. I've been looking and there are just so many... here's what i'm looking for
1). bright light so I can see what's in the road (holes, rocks and glass) and so cars will easily see me
2). rechargeable AA batteries or something similar
3). easy to take on and off so it's on only as needed
4). compact
5). less than or equal to $150

I have been using a set of Smart twin halogen lights that I purchased from eBay for about 8 months. I commute to and from work with at least one direction each way in darkness all year round so lighting is important. These give great lighting and have a run time of about 1.5 hours with both lights on.

I have been commuting for over 20 years and I really do recommend generator
sets. The Union sets I use cost about $50.00, the newer halogen lamps are very
bright, both to see and to be seen. The power source is infinite and I think the
problem of losing your lights when you stop is greatly exaggerated. And I wouldn't worry about someone stealing your generator set, more worried about them stealing the whole bike. The problem of generator wheel drag on the tire
is also greatly exaggerated. -
generators... haven't seen those yet...sounds pretty awsome though... i've decided to get a dinotte system as my commute is pretty bumpy w/ train tracks and glass... was suggested by a few people I ride with as a really great, bright light...just a little bit more than i was wanting to spend... seems to be the problem w/ owning a bike. 😄
