the cables probably cross under the downtube -- i've done the same thing to reduce cable rub w/
downtube shifter bosses. she's still got the brakes on backwards (right side rear) tho.

the girl w/ record doesn't look too happy about it. maybe she was upset about something else.

No the shifters are as usual. Some people route the cables that way and then cross the inner cables
over before they reach the bottom bracket.

well matter of opion since we brits have them back to front to the rest of europe (I cant remember
which way round we have it though cause by now its instinct!

How can you tell from that shot which shifter is connected to which derailleur?

NO, we Brits have them the right way round, everyone who has it the other way is wrong ;-).
Seriously though, right front is the universal norm for motorcycle braking - I don't see why
bicycles shouldn't be the same. Some also say that it's better to have your more skilfull hand
controlling the more powerful brake (but I'm left-handed!). Riding a French bike in the summer with
the cables reversed was really weird, and not particularly pleasant!

Depends on whether you ride in a country where they drive on the right or the left. You should have
your brakes arranged so that you can indicate a turn across traffic while using the front brake.

I was taking a guess (from the picture). I have a high quality monitor and I follow the housing into
the headtube/frame ... Of course the obvious is there is no way the STI themselves can shift like I
proposed. The innards/mechanisms have to be reversed/mirrored which Shimano does not make. The only
conclusion is if the cables were crossed underneath the BB.
