That said, is there a significant difference in the durability of these two wheelsets? I can purchase new SL's for about $100 more than the Elites. Is this worthwhile or am I asking for trouble?
My riding is about 200 miles per week, mostly flat (but will be doing some traveling to mountainous regions) and I weigh 190 lbs. Bike is Ultegra equipped, Specialized Roubaix.

For that difference I'd go with the SL's. They retail for far more than that over the Elites (which is a damn fine wheel).

In durability, I'd imagine the elites might actually be better. The SLs have a ceramic BB shell, they have aluminum spokes, and the rims are shaved to save weight. They're both great wheels, and the SLs are definitely lighter, but from strictly a durability standpoint, I'd say maybe the elites are better.
Yup, for only 100USD, get the SLs. BTW, any particular reason you are only looking at Mavics?
No, but the new Shimano's don't work w/my 9-speed cassette and I don't know much about the other brands. They are probably both overmarketed and sold, so if there are recommendations of others to consider in this quality range I'm certainly open to hearing about them.
Well - forget about the cross-postings to your other topic - there are a number of excellent brands in your price range (which is quite high market if you are looking at SLs!).
Take a look at Fulcrum, Campagnolo, Bontrager just to name the first three that came to mind. I am not super-sure in terms of 9 - speed compatibility, but I am certain the information can be found on the respective websites.
