Radio frequency for wireless computers/HR monitors

  1. Anyone know what frequency and modulation wireless bike computers use? I'd like to build a receiver
    so I can capure speed/distance/HR data to a PDA and tag it with GPS co-ordinates for the fully
    geeked out cycling experience ;+)

    The frequencies vary according to the model, so they don't interfere with each other . To find
    out, you can buy radio scanners with "frequency grabbing" facilities or buy a stand alone one
    like this -

    I presume they use the 433MHz allocation that my car keys and my radio-linked external thermometer
    use. I assume modulation is FM - easiest to do these days. But someone might actually know.

    433 MHz seems to be allocated only to keys (radio.gov.ukra365.htm).
    I think 20kHz would be easier and use less energy, as it's available.

    This makes using software radio and a soundcard input to the PDA feasible (maybe not in terms of
    battery life)

    My thermometer is marked as CE and 433MHz but you never know...

  6. Look for an FCC registration number on either the sending unit or in the manual, and then look it up at the FCC's online database. It probably gives part of the info you're looking for.
