The only way this group will ever attain any semblance of order is if we
moderate it and dump the morons, maniacs and self-important doucebags.
I vote that we get Bill to moderate the group.

Your mom....she's already been dumped by everyone here.
Thanks,

Forget it. Yeah, there are a few posters who can be annoying (all the various
Floyd and Dopedcyclist morphs, for example). But that's why newsreaders have kill
files. Learn to use 'em. Or simply ignore those people. Pretty easy.
Anyway, to *many* in here, if we used your definition of who would get dumped
("morons, maniacs and self-important doucebags"😉, you would be the first to go.
Think about it, Tom.

I'm honored that Tom thinks I could do the job, but we've talked about
this before. I'd be a pretty poor moderator based on limiting people. I
can't think of a single person that I'd block. Though I might be
tempted to cut the # of new threads per hour by an individual to under
25.
For me that's not a real problem either since I currently have a high
speed connection and I'm good at ignoring things.
I dont want the job, and if I was stuck with it things wouldn't look
much different. RBR is actually really well behaved, rational, and spam
free compared to other groups that are seriously political.
Thanks for the vote of confidence though Tom.
The idea that Tom and Brian would be the first gone is pretty funny
since I consider both to be friends.

Which is exactly what I thought. The stuff that seems to be a waste of time is
easily avoided or ignored. The whole idea of moderation just seems to be far too
prone to abuse.

In general, this is a smarter, (mostly) more rational bunch than many of the
other groups out there. It doesn't need any hand-holding.

Well, that may be true for you, but I'm judging it by what I read from other
people. I wouldn't want anyone given the boot, but I bet if it came down to a vote
to see who would get kicked off the island, the choices would certainly surprise the
person who called for moderation.
Anyway, if people don't like what's going on in here, there is the
alt.rec.bicycles.racing thing that is open. Start that going and moderate to your
heart's content...

Tom,
It's very presumptuous of you to think that anyone should be allowed to
"moderate" rbr. I can't really believe that anyone is *really* bothered by
the morons, maniacs, and self-important doucebags [sic] and if such a person
exists, then they should either (A) talk to a psychiatrist, and/or (B)
ignore rbr and start a new, moderated group. IMO, the primary criteria for
newsgroup success is simply the number of participants, both active posters
and lurkers. On that score I think rbr is pretty successful.
Besides, if you made a list of your morons, maniacs, and self-important
doucebags [sic] I bet many of my favorite posters would be on that list, but
admittedly I'm a tad immature.

Thanks Tom, but I couldn't possibly do it. Way too busy trying to
expose the plot wherein evil aliens are taking over pro bicycling in
preparation for a full-scale invasion of Earth.

Order, or a semblance thereof, is overrated.

than it appears to be.

It would be sad to lose you, Tom. You do have a contribution to make, if
only to the general craziness.

Their goal is actually to mask the positives, not detect them. The idea is
that they want us all to get used to athletes doing superhuman things so
they can more easily integrate into society. They learned their lessons
from the experience of the giant Blanc Manges from Planet Skyron, that a)
don't ignore the innocuous couple with spoons and b) start with a sport
that has less visibility than tennis. So the first part of their plan was
to completely remove France as a cycling power (much as the Blanc Manges
turned everyone into Scotsmen) by allowing Americans to win the tour. The
next part was to then discredit the Americans so that "French" "Supermen,"
who were really evil aliens, could start winning the tour again and people
would celebrate, the winners could run for office, take over France, and
then, in a domino theory, all of Europe, falling only on the frozen fields
of Russia to beat an ignominious retreat to Paris, resulting in yet
another cool plot people will use endlessly to show creative ways to
visualize military disasters. Now the part about discrediting the
Americans is contradictory to their purpose of masking the positives, but I
am in a hurry and don't want to go back to rewrite the beginning to make
this make sense.

Alien there science is more advanced. Alien there science
tests are 100% accurate. It is time we Earthlings adopted
alien there science.

Alien there science also includes a context sensitive spelling checker
that checks for Freudian slips. Bruce was one of their first attempts at
an AI than can detect such slips but his literal circuits over-compensated
and he ended up figuratively exploding.

You're so gullible. That's what they want you to believe.
