  1. Hi,

Several weeks ago I swapped my hardtail frame for a full sus and ever since
I've had a flat tyre almost every single time I've been out.

I'm using Specialized tubes inflated to about 50psi but snake bites are
    still happening.

Any reviews or recommendations on which tubes are the best? I've noticed
some "self healing" ones, heavy but worth it?

    Thanks

    Daz

Daz What size tire? Now what size tube you using? I like it pumped up 60 psi. But if all eles fails try a heavy thick tube and use the right size to tire.

    That's insane. I run 35-40psi
and rarely pinch flat, even in
    very rocky terrain. I've run
    everything from performance
    tubes borrowed from friends to
    the specialized tubes you are
    probably using, and never
    problems like that. If
    anything, your boing should
    help you with that.

I think you need to provide
    some more detail about your
setup is . . something is amiss.

  4. Hey all,

I'm riding a Santa Cruz Heckler with Hope hubs, Mavic x317 disc rims,
Panaracer Fire XC Pro 26 x 2.1 tyres and rubbish inner tubes!

    I've ridden nasty nasty rocks
    for days without the pinch
    problems he's describing,
    especially at those pressures
.. . if indeed they are pinch
    flats.

    Are you sure they're pinch
    flats? It's really hard to
    believe you pinch at that
    pressure unless you're taking
    enormous drops or the like.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall reading that "self-healing"
slime tubes don't work for pinch flats?

There are also extra-think tubes to consider.

You may just have to try some different things. I'm not sure that a lot of
us have had that much problem with pinch flats, and there are guys who
ride in rocky stuff all the time.

there's nothing still sticking in the wall and causing the flats.

Perhaps he's counting on the double-boing factor to allow him to bash
into and over everything that he used to navigate prudently,
excersising due caution and, employing riding SKILL? It's quite a
    common problem, really.

Yup, that's what I was thinking. If you're used to unweighting the rear
wheel (as is necessary) with a hardtail and then switch to a fully, then
it's easy to fall in to the "just roll thru it" trap and trash your wheels
    if not the bike.

Still, if it's a new bike (too lazy to go look), sometimes a wheel can come
with a burr or a sharp-edged rim strip or whatever that causes flats till
    found. Worth checking.

Something that may be obvious, but no one's mentioned yet... perhaps
he's got a slow leak in the tube, and simply isn't feeling the tire go
    soft before he snake-bites it.

The last flat I had was a stem failure, which would lose a lot more
air riding than sitting around the house (and was a bear to find after
    I removed the tube).

    Just a thought...

I would check your tires for cuts or separation along the tire bead.
    Put like
80 p.s.i. in and see if the tube pokes through a hole.
