Sometimes even reading a part's installation manual helps. But don't take those word for word. They sometimes try to confuse you so you go back the bike shop.

I personally used many resources and choose the best advice out of each one. That with common sense and some logic should get you on your way.

Both these sites are great! I'm looking forward to saving lots of money and time by doing the next service myself.

I just had my LBS do a service before my tour accross the alps and they didn't tighten the crank after working on it. I had to spend time in the rain on the side of a mountain correcting the bend chainring that resulted.

Does anyone know where it is possible to find a list of stuff that needs regular checking on the bike? Like with a car, where the manual tells you to check brakes every 20000km and oil every 100000km. I'd like to get to this stuff before it becomes expensive.
