Cycling at Casey Fields

school-based teams who come to practice on the track.

"Since the track opening in April 2006, the number of school teams who
have registered to become members of the local Casey-Cardinia HPV &
Cycling Club has grown to over 30.

"If you have time to visit tomorrow, please feel free to drop by.
Admission is free. Catering & BBQ will be available on site."

Sounds like the locals are taking an interest.

The track is used on a very regular basis by a number of clubs for racing. The notice above is for a race. Yes, it has a high volume of use.... for racing, and for the reasons you state ie reduces load on clubs as permits, marshalls etc required for open road racing, crits etc are not required at Casey Fields as a closed venue. How many people ride it recreationally or for training purposes????

I've no idea how many ride it recreationally. As the report says,
there's been "steady growth in the number of schools and school-based
teams who come to practice on the track", which sounds like training to
me.

The original discussion of whether it would be used was about racing.

No-one would ride it recreationally, surely? First, the ride in to it
on a roady is suboptimal (I've been doing it for a while now, the 'last
mile' is awful), secondly, it'd be like riding a velodrone. You'd do
it for training, but for fun?!
