which roads ?

Yep, ride anywhere as long as it's not a private road I guess. Oh yeah and not on railroads, airport runways, monorail tracks, rollercoaster tracks might be fun though, channel crossings or aircraft carrier runways, but other than those I think you should be alright.

But, honestly, I think pretty well anywhere is ok.

Well you dont say where you are but in UK the only roads that you can't cycle on is the motorways that said I prefer to avoid dual carrage ways and some of the other busy roads. Other than that find the road that makes riding the most enjoyable for you.

Non-motorizes traffic is not allowed on interstates in th US.

wherever you ride make sure your safety is your primary concern, and dont assume that cars can see you

In the US bicycles are not allowed on limited access roads. These are roads with no private driveways or private drives connected to them. But common sense will have you avoiding some roads that allow bikes as well.
