  1. Ah well, so much for my SR then.

I failed to start the Cambrian 600 this am, due to a combination of real
life intruding (kids stuff), minor injuries (wrist), lack of fitness and
a hugely disappointing perm 200 last week which had me deciding that
maybe the really huge distances were frankly beyond me.

It also looks likely I'll miss out on a RRTY as well, without a suitable
200 in August to go at (or even a suitable weekend in August to complete
    one!!).

Still, I have tried - ages ago I wrote on here that PBP seemed a long
way away and it still does. But now I'm better informed - I reckon 200's
are a good day out occasionally, other than that I'll leave it to the
keen ones out there. I think 100km day trips are probably a better use
of my time so here's to a few of them! Maybe I'll try a bit of MTB too,
who knows. It WAS all supposed to be about fitness and weight control,
so it's not all bad news!!

I think the madness of Audax has passed. Here's to a retirement of day
    touring and leisure cycling :-)

Sorry to hear about your woes. Why not declare a DIY 200 for August?
You could ride it anytime, even overnight if you can find suitable
controls. For RRTY you can even ride the same course over and over,
provided you submit an entry for it each time of course.

You and me both, I was ill for South then North so yesterday morning
left to do 600 perm having done a 200 perm on Sunday but little else in
    the previous 4 weeks.

It was a good ride up to Lincoln, weather was superb and I was flying.
Finished the first 300 in 12 hours dead - unfortunately so was I,
another 100 might have been possible but the lack of riding and a
certain amount of weight gain meant I was slowing to halt on some very
minor hills. 300k more simply wasn't on. So my first SR is up the spout
too. On the bright side it was a lovely ride and hopefully has set me
up for Phil and Friends. I will also need a 200 this month before I
dissappear on holiday in the last week. It'll have to be a perm -
probably the same one as last week.

See it as a temporary setback Tony. Im sure you'll bounce back. My
Audaxing aspirations are rather more modest and today's failure (Mam Tor
    100) was a very instructional experience. I discovered that my hair was in
need of a severe cutting back - my head overheated on the ride. I found
that the replacement chainset on my Galaxy from when I had a crank self
destruct on a 100km ride had too many teeth for the Mam Tor and by
implication for a fully loaded tourer on the iminent JOGLE. I saw some
great Derbyshire scenery and enjoyed the craic with the organisers.

Things will get better when your kids are older and more independent and
your career change has taken full effect. My wife is rubbing her hands with
glee at the moment. She's getting rid of me for at least a fortnight. My
oldest son has disappeared for a week's rock climbing in Derbyshire. My
youngest son has buggered off to his mate's leaving just the youngest at
    thirteen.

Your time will come - trust me!

I still get a buzz out of sorting out new rides from the Meshes. I am
taking some entry forms and meshes with me to plan some rides on tomorrow's
rail journey to Thurso. My target this season is to get the 2000 Brevet
    award from 20 x 100km rides.

    Keep your pecker up Tony.

I'm sure the mood is transient.

Surely, this last one is covered by your helmet...

Hard luck mate. Come and ride with me if you can make the time, perhaps
you need some company on the rides to perk you up. Your weight
management and fitness is excellent, well done.

  7. Aw poor you! These things happen though, it doesn't mean that long
distance is beyond you. Life events, stress, and lack of sleep all
effect how well you perform on the bike, so if you're stressed at work
or home it's not that surprising that your recent rides have been more
    difficult than you anticipated.

We all have bad days. I don't always enjoy every bit of a long ride
either, sometimes I wonder WTF I am doing, but that passes and
afterwards I usually only remember the good bits! Don't let it get to
you and don't give up TonyB!

I'll be up for a get together and a nice sociable ride with you 'n'
    MSeries sometime this autumn too.

    Take it easy
