Oddly enough I have seen more cyclists since the weather has gotten a little cooler, i am talking
probably twice as many - is this normal?

It depends where you live. Here the number of cyclists has suddenly gone up because the number
of students has too. It has coincided with the colder weather but the start of the first term
often does.

Around here (Cambridge) it's the beginning of term for students, which means a significant increase
in cyclist numbers.

I've been seeing a lot fewer on my commute... There were probably more than usual in the West End on
Saturday, but it was a nice day.

To be honest I find it makes my commute more pleasant when I don't have to content with overtaking
fair-weather cyclists.

On the minus side, now that it's getting colder the "cocoon effect"[1] seems to be a bit more
pronounced. Had a few intersting moments on roundabouts this morning with cars trying to cut across
the lane that I was using.

hmmm. i suppose that is one possibility, however the majority of cyclists I see are older (and look
battle hardened by work :-) )

Luckily, with most of my commute route being off road I dont need to contend with that

Guess its my first time riding in strong winds but come on Mother Nature - having to pedal to
propel yourself downhill is not on!

Also it was starting to get noticably dark around 17:55 ish - not be long before the nights draw
in and Santa powers up his Reindeer.

I guess Winter is on its way!

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. 2200 -2245 into a 30 mph headwind - my cruising speed
was only 10 mph, but I had enough energy to keep it up for the duration. Simon

I managed it but it was work all the way - cruising speed was probably similar - my "beef" was that
i couldnt take a rest on the downhill bits!

The evenings get dark very suddenly - when they b***** about with the clocks. Though I never know
