  1. I really need/want to upgrade my stock crankset that came with my 05 Specialized FSRxc. The stock crank is a Hollowtech II ..not an XT or any other designation. Probably OEM version of Hollowtech right? Anyway, I've read reviews after review of my tops picks: Race Face Deus X-type, Truvativ Stylo GPX, and the very common and popular Shimano XT/XTR sets. I've found great deals on all 3 on eBay and various bike shops. Come very close to buy the Race Face on eBay until i started reading not so favorable reviews about their durability and arduous installation process. So, if I were to pick one, right now, which should i go with. I do 80% XC and a little AXC. I picked up a new Rock Shox Revalation 426 to beef up the front end and replace the far less impressive Manitou Axel Comp that came stock on the bike.

    What are your picks/thoughts???

for me? RaceFace. I use raceface evolve x-type. To fit it you need 3 tools. a bottom bracket spanner that you will need for any pipe style crank, an 8mm hex and a 10mm hex. It takes no more than 15mins to put on but you do have to know what the chainline you need is and what the width of your bb shell is. I have had minor problems fitting one onto a new frame, but that was only because there was no chainline for me to emasure so I had to use a trial and error process. shimano chainrings may as well be made out of butter and truvativ are too heavy imho. that leaves raceface. they are probably slightly dearer than the others you mentioned though. If you do decide to go RF get the evolve X type not the deus as you will not notice any significant loss in performance due to the type of riding you do and you save a wedge of cash that can be spent on other more fun thigns.
