2007 vs 2006

I was going to get a Trek 1500, for racing...and I came across a website that had 2007 Trek 1500s. Then I also realized that the 2006 Trek 1500s will be going on sale then. So, my question is how are the 2007 and 2006 so different, specifically what will the 2007 Trek 1500 offer that the 2006 Trek 1500 can not.

I don't know the answer to your question specifically, but in general the changes from year to year are so incrementally small it usually doesn't offset the price difference.

Some always want the latest and greatest to be sure. And there are exceptions to the rules, such as when there are big changes to component groups or other important things such as a better handle bar for instance.

Sometimes, however, paying up for the latest technology just doesn't pay off. Many new products that find their way onto bikes don't perform as well, or any better, than last year's model.

The biggest difference in last year's model to the new model is that they upgraded it to full ultegra. The '06 had 105 shifters and crank and that was upgraded on the '07. In my opininion, I'd go with the new one. It's the same price as last years and has the same frame with upgraded components. If you want it to be a racing bike, Ultegra is definitely nice to have.

how did you find this out?
It's not on the website. and do you know exactly when bike shops will carry '07?

I haven't seen an '07 1500 yet, but rudycyclist's guess/knowledge could be based on the rediculous changes that the 1500 went through in 2006. At one point we had 3 on the sales floor at the shop I work at, and none of them were spec'ed with the same components. One had 105 derailleurs and ultegra 9 speed levers, where the others had 105 levers and FD but ultegra rear, and one of them had an older ultegra crankset (octalink version), while one had a 105 octalink set, and one had bontrager cranks. That was just 3 bikes at one time, there were quite a few other odd variations in them throughout the year.

Ive read on another forum site, that 07 1500s some are running full ultegra, if I was in the states/buying a bike I would be hunting one of these down. Who knows how many they have of these.

I do not know about the Trek 1500, but I was at my LBS a few days ago looking at the Specialized Roubaix Elite and the Trek Pilot 5.0. While I was test riding the bikes, the fellow who was helping me called Trek to determine the availability of the 2006 models, when the 2007 models would be available, and what the changes would be. He already had the 2007 Specialized catalogue, but he called Specialized to see if the 2006 models were still available and when the 2007 models would be shipped.

As far as we could determine, the only change in the Trek Pilot 5.0 for 2007 is the color. There are no 2006 available from Trek, and the 2007 will not ship until late August or early September. The MSRP for the 2007 should be the same as the 2006.

The 2007 Specialized Roubaix Elite will have the 105 ten speed rear derailleur and ten speed casette instead of the Ultegra nine speed, it will have Mavic wheels (I do not remember the model) instead of Alex, and it will have a new Specialize Roubaix tire instead of the Specialized All Condition Pro. The MSRP will be about $50 more than the 2007. The 2007 is already shipping and my LBS will have them by next week. My LBS still had one 2006 Roubaix Elite in my size, but they told me that the Mavic wheels and the ten speed 105 insted of nine speed Ultegra were well worth the difference in the price. Because they had only one 2006 model left, they would only discount it by $50.

The 1500 could be a different story, but it looks like the major changes in the Pilot line came between 2005 and 2006, and that there will be few, if any, changes between 2006 and 2007.
