Commiserations to all those living in Melbourne but the tribe and I have
decided to put down roots here in Melbourne and are moving into our new
house next week. It is about 2km or so up the road from the place we are in
now and today we had the removalist come around for a pre-inspection that is
basically to see how much [censored] we have so he knows how many boxes and how
big a truck to bring. We got to the shed and I basically told him that he
needs to move everything except for my six bikes as I will ride them over
there myself as I didn't trust removalists to touch them. He seemed a bit
put out by this but I can still remember the last time I had a removalist
move a couple of my old bikes when he put the front wheel between his legs
and reefed the handlebars around to 90 degrees to fit it in the truck. This
was a roadie that I used to have with a quill stem and it would have taken
me all of 10 seconds to loosen off the one allen key bolt so that the stem
could be moved but I only saw him just as he was reefing the bars around and
by then it was too late. Ended up with a slightly buckled wheel and my mtb
(now my SS) was scratched up pretty badly after doing the trip from
Brisvegas to Canberra basically wedged up on top of all my other stuff and
rubbing on the roof of the ISO container. I managed to claim damages after
some argument with the removal company so at least I was compensated for
getting the damage fixed.
I will now be about 1km or so closer to work and only about 300m or so from
the Yarra Trail so my time on the road for commuting will be reduced even
further. This can only be a good thing.
