It might - Landis if undergoing the knife pretty soon and he may not be
able to ride as well, if ever again, as he did in years past. Why lock
into
a team if it doesn't have a potential winner? Depends on your career
objectives I'd say.

Obviously you aren't a rider's agent. Maybe next year Landis won't be able
to ride at all because of his hip. That means that Phonak won't have to buy
him out of his contract. Maybe he'll be as great as every and Phonak will

The difference being that Armstrong and Landis have a lengthy history that
is less that friendly. I get the impression that as a rider he respect
Armstrong greatly; not so as a person. I can't see Landis ever (though I
suppose most everyone has their price) putting himself in the position where
one of his bosses is part owner Lance.

Yeah, from Landis' point of view, it would have made more sense to sign a
longer contract, given the uncertainty of his hip. I'm sure Disco or a
couple of other teams would have been willing to take that risk.

white hope is Danielson.

Popo didn't look very good for the last couple of Tours. Yet he had a real
gangbusters first year pro season and that's what caught Johann's eye I
suspect.

Yeah ... 12th place (at 19:07) and the best young rider jersey while riding

Of course, this is not the team that was suppose to ride for Phonak.
Two members were removed after being implicated in drugging just before
the tour.

One would assume that the team will reload with a couple good mountain
cyclist if these two stay unavailable.

It would not be in Floyds interest to sign a 1 year contract days after
winning the Tour.
If Phonak is only interested in a 1 year deal, other teams would be
more than willing to
sign him for 2 (or more) years, even with the unknown of the hip
hovering over the deal.

Once again, we'll see when the real contract is signed. I think it
will be two years.

I just thought it was odd that a one year contract was announced. It
has since be
denied, at least by the Landis camp. Like Dan Rather, you are charging

He doesn't have enough upside, even with the looming surgery, that the
