  1. I've heard that trainers will wear out tires pretty quick, does this also apply to rollers?

One other question on rollers (if you have time 🙂 ), I've only been on my rollers in the garage on a rainy day and I situate myself between a wall and the car so if I lose balance I can easly bump into or hold onto one of these. This winter I was going to use the rollers in my house but I don't have a space like I do in the garage so I'm in between 2 tall, solid things. Any ideas of how to do this indoors (I have an unfinished rec room in the basement but all of the walls are taken...in there is a washer/dryer, hot water heater, work bench, etc.). Thanks.

    P.S. Creative ideas appreciated.

  2. 1. Tires won't wear at all on rollers if you keep them fully inflated.
    2. It depends on how steady you are on the rollers, but I just use the back of a chair for support to get on and off.

  3. i dont remember the exact company, but a few months ago i saw a tire company offering trainer-specific tires. they come in bright orange only, and the claim to fame is that rollers tend to heat tires up a bit more and may cause tread seperation.

i've never experienced said seperation... and it might just be a stab at another piece of market share... but if you find out, or try the trainer specific tires, let us all know.

as for where to place the rollers indoors. i find that you really only need one side for support. though i do remember my roomate (many years ago) setting up the rollers in a door way to use both sides of the door jams.

pretty hilarious memory of him tied up in that same door way when he mixed alcohol with a late night VO2 max experiment.

    so be careful.

I'm not very steady. Some days I ride on them and other than mounting and dismounting, I don't need any support. Other times I go for water or something and sway so much to one side that I hold on to the car or wall briefly for balance.

    Thanks...I'll figure it out.

  5. I have a set of Kreitler rollers that I have been using quite a bit. I had a rear Tufo tubular/clincher begin to seperate on me last week. There was a 2" and a 4" seperation. I tried to further kill the tire by riding it for another two days but I only became annoyed. I'm not a light weight (213lbs) and I have the smaller diameter rollers (2.25"😉 so I can imagine I'm heating the tire up pretty good.

Continental makes the tire you are thinking of.

Rollers can cause your tire wear out early. It all depends on how much heat the tires generate on the rollers. More than likely it will be only the rear one.

I've worn out tires in 1 winter of riding with my Tacx trainer due to the heat buildup.
