  1. ....was Floyd riding when he broke his hip? I just got off the phone
with my parents who live in Temecula and they said he broke it during a
crash on De Luz Road. Is that true?

Thanks, I had finally run across that since I posted. I don't know what
area he lives in so I don't know if he would have been on De Luz on the
    way home from the valley.

And no wonder he's currently having problems with his hip. He was
operated on at practically the worst hospital in southern California.

De Luz isn't the route you take between anything, unless he's got a
house out there. At least when I was riding it years ago it was back
of beyond stuff. Great ride, though.

I saw an International Herald Tribune article titled "What Floyd Landis
has been pedaling" from July 10, 2006, and it describes Landis as
driving to the spot of his accident, stopping, and saying "I hit right
    here."

"Here" was the intersection of Calle Vista Lejos and Sunset Terrace.
According to maps.ysahoo.com, this intersection is in Temecula, near
Rancho California Rd. and Sandia Creek Rd. The article says there was a
"barely visible sheen of dark pebbles exactly the color of asphalt. The
pebbles apparently came from an adjacent hillside."

So, maybe the street is dangerous all the time.

Yeah, a lot of those streets are. That intersection is less than a mile
from my parent's place so his crash site was much closer to their place
than my Dad thought. I believe these roads are unincorporated so they
don't get much maintenance, at least the road my parent's are on doesn't
    get much work.

Yeah, I was thinking his place may have been out there.

The early part is quite nice but then you get into some quite steep
stuff further out towards De Luz.

At the time he said that he was riding home from the gym. I don't know what
gym, or the relationship between any gym and the crash site.
