Anybody here ever ride in the Methow Valley, WA? I may have an opportunity to move to that area and
was wondering what the trails are like.

It's a big mountain bike destination vacation area. You might google Wintrhop and Sun Mountain +
mountain biking. I'd give you more names but I loaned out all my WA guide books. I do know there is
a huge trail system and you are smack up against the North Cascades.
I'm sure it will suck.

My dad grew up there, and I've been through there several times & camped there. Twisp & Winthrop are
really fun towns.
I've never ridden there, (except on a motorcycle!) so this reply doesn't mean much but to say the
area is beautiful,
and you'll be in the NW USA, close to a lot of very neat stuff.
North Eastern WA is scenic, dry with lots of interesting geology and geography. I went to H.S. just
east of that valley.

Maybe a google search, or contacting the nearest bike shop would help if nobody on the NG can help.

Never ridden there myself, but Zilly's NW WA book lists eleven trails in the Methow Valley. Which is
a bit of a misnomer, since the listed trails typically have 2000+ feet elevation gain (some less
than 500 and at least one that is 5000+ feet!!!) A lot of dirt road/single track ranging from four
miles to 33+ miles. If you want to spend twelve bucks plus shipping, you can get the book here:

Good luck in your search.

Methow valley along the methow river is a major eastern washington xc ski area. It consists of a
network of trails that extend from town to town....twisp, winthrop, mazama etc. There is fantastic
heli skiing, xc skiing, skate skiing, and in the summer trails are used for mtn biking. There are
numerous areas for mtn biking in addition to the trails. You would not go wrong if you don't mind a
small series of towns locked about 4.5 hours from the west side big city of seattle.
In the summer, the N Cascade highway opens and it is 3.5 hour drive. This cuts through the N
Cascades national park system, a fabulous place to hike, climb etc. Called the Little Alps
of America.
Besides, you would then be only 4 hours from the Columbia River Gorge and all the great stuff there.
But don't tell anyone about all this fun stuff...........

Don't forget the mountaineering and the backpacking. It's very close to the Okanogan region of BC,
which is famous for fruit and wine and Shaun Bell.
I"m rather amazed that you could find a job worth moving there for!!

Washington's high tax base, meth use statistics, Tim Eyman, I"m trying to think of all the horrible
things about this state and I'm drawing somewhat of a blank.

an oxymoron.

That's the problem with the best places. You either work for the forest service, move there to
retire rich, or wait tables for tourists. That's a great place. Sun Mountain Lodge would be
hard to take.
And Ross Lake Resort would be another lousy place to put up with.
