I finally got a couple of black spokes for my rear wheel and had it trued.
Now I am putting on a new 8 gear cassette cluster and 8 spd chain.
I noticed that the shop has a new Shimano I.G. 8 spd chain for about $15 Cdn. It also has a SRAM PC-58 8 spd chain for $30 Cdn.
I have heard that the I.G. system shifts better than the H.G. system. My question is would a new I.G. chain shift better than a SRAM chain if I am still using a SRAM sprocket set?
This is for a road bike,but I may be going as low as 32 teeth on the rear.
What would be a good yet inexpensive rear derailleur to put with this? The shifters are 8 gear Ultegra bar-ends.

No. The improvement is in the sprocket profile. AFAIK, the IG chain should work fine with the SRAM cogset. I'd get whatever's reasonable and cheap.

Tiagra is fine, as is Deore LX or even Alivio if you want a larger rear cluster.

PS - Does Sram know why one model is supposed to be better than another? If so, why do they keep it a secret? I never found anything on their website about this matter
