I am thinking about upgrading my bike..Whilst the frame is about 40 years old the equipment (Campag Veloce Mavic m2 etc) is only a couple of years old and is in excellent condition.. I don't know if I should get a new Trek 100 a Specialized Allez Triple or use my existing equipment on a Dolan Preffisio frame ...I live in a very hilly area and usually do a minimum of 30 miles a day but occasionally do a trip of 70 miles...Any advice or suggestions appreciated...Both the Trek and the Specialized got good writeups in the C/Plus mag...

You don't see very many reviews of Dolan bikes/frames in glossy mags. The Prefissio is supposedly available in September according to the web site - I've just been there to order a frame for my posh fixie for this summer. Er, now I'm confused. Above you suggested it was a choice between two ~£500 bikes or a £275 frame available in September as documented here: http://www.bikes-dolan.uk.com/en-us/dept_57.html I wasn't suggesting the Pre-Cursa - that was just the reason I happened to be looking at the Dolan web site, and it was only £100 anyway. There are other bikes on that site which are a lot more, but I didn't mention any of those. There is even a cheaper frame which would be suitable for touring around with a saddlebag here: http://www.bikes-dolan.uk.com/en-us/dept_116.html Did I miss something?

If you've already got good kit, why pay for a complete bike? If you've got a budget, then a budget which will buy a mediocre bike will buy a really good frame.
Then again, what's wrong with your existing frame?
A very nice way of improving an existing bike is to fit a pair of lighter wheels.

Oh, absolutely. Me too. My good road bike is a Dolan, and if I get myself a new winter bike it will probably be a Dolan too.
