Hi,
How common is it on a road bike for one's knees to occasionally contact
the back side of the bar tops (road bike) while standing up climbs?
This happens to me sometimes, and I wonder what it says (if anyting)
about my position.

Funny you should ask. I was just pondering this today while riding. My knees
just clear the bar, leg hair hits it but I have to extend my foot to get that
close. I was wondering how typical this was myself.

Hey, Jobst, a new reason why pros shave their legs.

The question is, has this affected how you ride your bike? Would you perhaps
adopt a more-forward position when standing (if you could)? In other words,
are you deliberately riding a bit differently than you might otherwise
simply to avoid banging into the handlebar?
Interesting questions. My legs very rarely make contact with the bars when
standing on a climb, but they come darned close.

Nope, it's completely a nonproblem. Just one of those silly things you notice
when riding.

Okay, so it's not just me.

I had a pair of Cinelli <can't remember name> bars that were problematic.
You must be climbing with your hands in the drops? Switch to a different
pair of bars, TTT and Salsa bars work for me as would a different style of
Cinelli.
BTW, track racers and some crit racers use "criterium" bars with a long bend
across the top instead of a straight to solve this problem when sprinting.
The downside is you lose a hand position.

This happens only when standing holding the hoods uphill. Doesn't
happen on flat ground. It only happens occasionally and is in no way a
problem.

I don't think I need a solution. I was mostly interested to see if
others had a similar condition as a sort of sanity-check for my
position.
Thanks!
