up about 40 positions. He may not really have a shot at the tour
victory, but he must really feel good about today....

It seemed to me that as soon as Dave Z. was no longer in virtual yellow,
the peloton stopped riding. Very curious lack of initiative - aside
from Philippe Gilbert's halfhearted attack, there was no sign from the
rest of the peloton that they had any interest in winning the stage.

I guess that's what happens when both Boonen and McEwen say they want to
take it easy on their guys, with Hushovd's teammate still up the road,
to boot... the only real chasers were Phonaks, and nobody from Phonak
was going to care about bringing it together for a bunch sprint if they
didn't have to.
