Well done Martin. Sounds like it's too lumpy for me to contemplate for
quite a while even if I was up to the distance.

When I shed 30% of my body weight I might just do that ride ;-)

I am tempted to go and have a play on the hill out of Mythylmroyd (sp?) if
only to to be able to claim that i've done the longest climb/descent though
I note that you have problems with arm ache from breaking on long drops...is
there anything that minimises the discomfort?

It was interesting to read about the rider whose crank fell off. I don't
feel so negligent about the same incident happening to me on one of my BP
rides. One legged pedalling was an interesting experience.

    nice one ;-)
hopefully I'll have another to post in a couple of weeks if La
    Marmotte doesn't finish me off.

More my hands rather than my arms. Don't brake so much is the answer
but after 37.5 hours of riding with only 4.75 hours and a few shortish
breaks I really didn't have it in me to concentrate and go with the
    flow.

This guy is very experienced too ! He banked enough time to enable him
to call in at home, he was luck that it happened where it did too.

Its a long hill but not very steep. Climbs 968feet in 5.5 miles. I went
up one day last winter, the resevoir at the top was partially frozen,
blue sky and snow on the moors, beautiful. You can drop down to
Hollingworth Lake where there are several cafes and usually some
boaties messing around which is interesting to watch. You then have to
climb back over again though !!

I found myself driving up Blackstone Edge on Sunday afternoon, due to
    the M62 being closed.

Now I am a-feared for mine sanity...
