  1. My first tri will be on 7/9. The swim ends on a rocky, shell-stewn
beach. I have a hard time walking on carpet barefoot. I contemplate my
longest part of the tri will be from the water to the bike. Does anyone
    have any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Pool shoes?

Some folks find a way to leave them on the shore, in a place they can
retrieve them. It is one of my vivid memories of Kona. People would
abandon them on the way into the water.

Flipflop sandals might be easier to get on but are more dificult
    to run with.

Also its amazing what adrenalin does for you in the heat of the race,
you can find yourself carefully treading your way down to the shore
going "Owowowowowwow" every step of the way and then have no problem
sprinting across the very same stones on the way into T1.

Either that or cold water numbs the feet...

  4. So I won't be cheating if I wear sandals?

  5. No, you can throw on a pair of sandals after you exit the water by
staging them near the swim exit. We do it all the time at IM and they
even provide a table for people to stage glasses for those that need
    them.
