Do you know what model Allez that is? Allez is a pretty big family of bikes from Specialized... it's essentially their entire line of sub-SWorks, dedicated road drop-bar bikes. What do you know about the Allez's drivetrain?

Shimano Sora STI group with a Tiagra in the rear, and Ritchey wheels/bars/stem, so I think the components are a little higher end than the Trek. although I think the Trek frame felt a little better. Neither bike was adjusted, though, which makes direct comparison tough.

Hmmm. Well, these are really similar bikes in most ways, oldrider. The Allez has compact geometry, but other than that; they're pretty darn identical. The addition of a few Tiagra-level components, plus the Ritchey wheelset (should be pretty sturdy) make the Allez maybe a marginally better value, but I mean marginal. Marginal enough that component value shouldn't be the deciding factor.

I'd suggest that it comes down to fit. See if you can't have the shop guys help you determine which is a better fit -- they should be willing to adjust the seatpost and maybe even swap out some stem options for you. Comfort and fit are key, as you probably already know. That and paint scheme.
