Very sad news from Hobart. Kate Tamayo was killed on Sunday afternoon riding on the East Derwent Highway. Her death is indeed a very painful loss to all who love cycling.
At this point I would suggest we should assist and support BikeTas in any way they wish, over attributing blame before we know what the causes were.
Today, please take a moments reflection today for Kate. She worked towards creating a safer place for cyclists. To know Kate died doing something she loved is tragic beyond words.

Hobart cycling advocate Kate Tamayo has been identified as the cyclist killed on Sunday after being struck from behind by a 63 year old male driver of a 1982 Landcruiser on Hobart's East Derwent Highway.
Kate was killed at about 2.30pm while riding north. The low winter sun would have been nearly directly in motorists eyes at that time/ direction, and this may have been a contributing factor. Although there are two lanes in each direction there is no sealed shoulder at that point on the road.

A female cyclist was killed on the weekend after being struck by a car on Hobart's Eastern Shore. The woman was killed about 2.30pm after a four-wheel-drive knocked her off her bicycle at Old Beach. She was heading north on the East Derwent Hwy between the two Jetty Rd intersections when she was struck from behind by a white 1982 Landcruiser. Read the full article from The Mercury.
