About a month ago someone posted a link to their favorite online store with cheap cheap cycling socks (though I seem to recall it still turned out to be $4-5 per pair) and I'm trying somewhat unsuccesfully to find that link because I think I remember seeing smiley face socks and I'm trying to come up with good gifts from the states for my bike friends.
Cause smiley faces are way cooler than socks that say Dura Ace even if they aren't quite as cool as lucky red socks with hand embroidered talismans on the bottom.
You can get coolmax or similar anklet socks for half that if you shop the discounters found in most strip malls. Then (if you're in the US) visit the always creepy Michaels craft store, and pick up your choice of embroidered whatnot to stick on the ankle. I think a string of doll eyes would be the most striking, but there's plenty of eyebrow raising choices.

Creepy? That's a verdict I reserve for Hobby Lobby. Michael's is odd to the non-crafter (that would be me, in this family), but not creepy.
