Dead Threads?

Its just Googles local server that sucks. Happened to me too all the time, when I used it. One
day all threads would be unavailable. Other days just older ones. That and the incredibly long
posting time made me give up on it and use the free german service I'm on now. (Requires a
newsreader though)

Well I did check the properties his message before replying. It has Google all over. And I dont
know of anywhere else that stores old threads. Usually deleted after some time on regular
newsservers AFAIK.

I am getting the same problem. Not only are many of the threads dead but the ones that aren't dead
are out of order to matter how I try to arrange them, either by reply or by date. Life is too short
to have to mess around with a screwed up technology. And so goodbye to one and all unless and until
I can get a newsreader.

Yeah, I am using Google to post and read. Until this week I had never had a single problem readng an
interesting thread. Of course, I am slective in what I have been reading and I don't go near the
troll bait. However this week I am finding most of the threads are dead--new or old. Guess I'll have
to find a new site to view the group on. Thanks for the feedback. dj

Many thanks Rob for the great lead. I am definitely going to check out the Agent Free newsreader. I
do note that there are many other newsreaders around but they seem to want to charge quite a fee for
their use. I am already maxed out in what I am spending on my computer and do do not want any more
expenses connected therewith.

I do not understand how Google posting has gotten so messed up lately. It worked just fine (although
slow like everyone else has noted) for the many months I have been reading and posting here, but now
all of a sudden it is impossible. At my age I can only take so much aggravation, so if a newsreader
will work as well or better than the Google posting, than I will be one happy camper.

Here is what I was able to discover by following the many threads from other newsgroups, all of
which are having the same problem that we are having.

Here's the note back from the Google support team:

Hi,

Thank you for your note. The Google Groups servers are continuing to experience problems. The
engineering team is aware of the problem and is currently working on the issue.

Though we can not give a specific time when the problem may be alleviated, we are sure it
will be soon.

We appreciate your patience during this time.

Sincerely,

The Google Groups Team

Let us hope they get this problem resolved soon or some of us are going to have to learn how to
operate a news reader.

Thanks John for the great lead. Google seems to be working OK once again, but my trust in it has
been shattered. I have gotten the Cycling Forums site and am now a member, so I now have an
alternative to Google. I am not sure that I want a news reader now that I have two different ways of
accessing arbr. Apparently it is possible to configure Outlook Express as a news reader and I have
also had a look at Free Agent. News readers appear to be more complex to use than either Google or
Cycling Forums. I will always choose simplicity over complexity everything else being equal.

I need to get back on this group as I can see the political threads are all going to hell
without me. 😉
