For 25 years I've had a blue Bottecchia sitting around my apartment,
inherited from a family friend who used it something like three times.
It has all the original equipment on it, including the original
hand-sewn tires and brown, un-broken-in Brooks saddle. It has
'Professional Hand Made' painted on it, as well as a sticker that says
'Campione Del Mondo 1966' and 'Campione Italiano 1964-65-66-67'
Years ago someone pointed out where it was imprinted '1973' on the steel
of the pedal assembly, I think (I haven't looked lately), and he told me
that indicated the year of manufacture.
I live in New York City and took the bike around 6-8 years ago to the
Toga Bike Shop, a racing-oriented shop where the bike's owner used to go
and may even have bought the bike. When I went there I asked if they
could give me an estimate on the value of the bike and no one would or
could, although they dangled the offer of a trade for an unspecificed
new bike.
The Bottecchia is only gathering dust in my apartment and I'm finally
thinking of selling it but have no idea what the value is. I tried
various internet searches but didn't really come up with anything too
useful.
Can anyone suggest any printed or online references, or any other way I
can figure out a fair value for this bicycle?
Note: I've got a 30-year-old Raleigh Super Course I used for my periodic
street rides and don't need anything else for myself, so don't try to
convince me to spruce up the Bottecchia and use it. :-)
