  1. Well that's me put in my place as far as my cycling abilities go ;-)

The offspring came home from school and said to his Dad, "Fancy going out on a training ride?" Dad
had to refuse as he has a prior engagement he can't get out of. So I said to offspring, "Never mind,
if Dad can't make it, I'll come out with you."

Offspring looked at me in a sort of sympathetic, "how do I let mum down gently" way and said, "Oh
that's okay Mum, I'll go out on my own then, as I want to get some sprinting in and I know you can't
keep up with me. You just do your own pace, Mum."

Well then, that's me put in my place then, isn't it. Nicole Cooke I am not ;-)

Mind you, credit to him, he got changed into his kit & went out on a training run. Told me where he
was going - & even called me by mobile to let me know he had deviated slightly from pre-arranged
route, just so I was kept informed. He arrived back home a little while later, all sweaty so he'd
    put in some effort.

I'm just off to remove a few spokes from his wheels & stick a few holes in his inner tubes I
think... as revenge for the earlier comment though :-D

    Cheers, helen s

Suggest filling up the frame tubes with sand or fishing weights. Then add slow-set adhesive to the
    tyres to "improve grip".

Then do another "training ride" with him :-)

Just draft the little urchin for 30 miles then overtake him in the last 100 metres. That'll teach

Helen, he's well trained. Maybe you're not a Nicole Cooke, but maybe he'll be a Lance Armstrong.

Ideally, I'd have been a great skier, but my parents couldn't afford it, so I'm not .. Take him on a
jaunt around the tea shops of Norwich, and I'm sure he'll give up well before you 😉

    Regards Nick

It's just Yet Another Reason to give in to the Dark Side, Helen. Note that recently Claire King, a
60 mile a week commuter, did better than Boardman's UCI hour record by riding a Sensibly Designed
Bike. Since Nathan is resigned to comedy aerodynamics and discomfort

Are you seriously suggesting Helen should ride something like the thing in the picture?

It can only reasonably be described as a massive plastic penis or an oversized condom with wheels.

No nice girl would be seen dead in such a thing.

Only if that's not against UCI rules ;-)

It would hardly be performance enhancing. You could, of course, feed him a few good glasses of a
suitable spirit of choice (my choice would probably be a good Scotch but that could lead to a drink
    problem in later life :~(

Of course you could look at things from the other side. You fit your bike with small rockets and
take a handful of performance enhancing drugs.

Alternatively, just take some mind altering drugs and imagine you have beaten him.
