  1. Anytime someone says "I want to be hyooge" people always recommend bench,
deadlift, and squat. I am doing these now and I love them all, but I'd
like to know, scientifically, why they are such awesome body builders. I
remember reading some time ago that muscles create growth hormones, and
that by stimulating the large muscles of the back and legs, these hormones
are produced in larger quantities and release into the blood.

Aside from that, why are these three lifts so crucial?

    Thanks!

Because, when combined, they recruit most of the major muscle groups.
    It's a matter of efficiency.

Because their minds are dead. And those people are often powerlifters.
    Surprise.

We like to use an "holistic approach."
And anabolic steroids. And no, i am not being sarcastic. Which doesnt mean
that powerlifters doesnt use them, they often use truckloads. Wanna get big,
ask a bodybuilder. Its our job to get big.

You must also be willing to consume 4000-6000 Kcal/day during several
    periods.

    Sorry, no.

I believe there are studies that have shown an increase in test/GH after
    doing squats or deadlifts.
Now, the problem is, lets say that there actually IS an increase in test,
the increase is perhaps 10-20%. If that.

If you want to have an anabolic effect from androgens on muscles, you need
    to double it. At least.

    Quoted message said:

    Oh.
They hit a lot of big and smaller muscles at the same time.

The deadlift is obsolete, squats are fine.

Many times i suggested to beginners that they would only need squats/leg
presses, rows, pull ups/downs, 2 forms of press and some ab work. That will
work the entire body in a relative short time. Which doesnt mean you can
include one joint movements such as curls, pushdowns, laterals, calf raises,
    etc, etc...

Really? Humans and pre-humans and trolls have been picking up heavy things
off the ground for, what, millions of years? Now it's suddenly obsolete?
When did this happen, and why didn't I get the memo?

    Exactly!

Why do you think the Neanderthals became extinct?

The Cro-Magnons were actually smart enough to invent machines with
    ropes/leverages.
Which have a striking resemblence with todays modern weight equipment.

It happened once a upon a time in the west, and the memo should have been
    arrived years ago.

IMHO "Little Big Man" was a _much_ better movie along the same lines.
I was not that impressed with "Dances With Wolves".

It was mediocre at best, but then I've not seen many movies that were
raved about by movie critics that appealed to me.

"On Golden Pond" being a classic example. <yawn>

'course "Titanic" was very much an exception.
    Excellent film......

Eye 'R Confused. Are we still talking about the evolution of man in
association with wolves? If so, that began hundreds of thousands of years
ago. I liked "Dances With Wolves", and loved "Little Big Man", but neither
deals with that topic. Although "DWW" hints at it.

The mid-way part wasn't the problem, imo. Snipping the Emily Litella
mention is what caused the confusion, if I'm not mistaken, Om.

I haven't seen Dance With Wolves, however Cohen's words - "Association

What, you think we can only talk to you?

Your question wasn't all that in-depth. It's efficient to do compound
    moves. So people do them.

Personally, when I'm in a rush my mantra is "push something, pull
something, squat something and get out."

People do them because they work.
