  1. Here's my current workout....i saw some decent gains in strength after
doing it for like 2.5 months, but then took a month or so off and lost
a good bit of it. didn't really see much gain in size, might be because
i wasn't eating enough protein/calories. i'm trying to gain some size
and lose a little bit of a gut... 5'10, 180lbs, 21 years old. anyways
any ideas for improvements would be much appreciated...

all exercises i do in the 6-8 rep range to failure, 4 sets

    day 1:
    bench press
    dumbell bench press
    incline dumbell bench press
    skull crushers
    triceps cable pushdown

    day 2:
    bent over rows
    Cable Seated Row
    Cable Front Pulldown
    seated barbell curls
    standing barbell curls
    dumbell curls

    day 3:
    Barbell Shoulder Press
    Dumbbell Arnold Press
    Dumbbell Front Raise
    cardio for 30 minutes

    day 4:
    squats
    seated leg press
    deadlift
    stiff leg deadlift
    standing calf raise (smith machine)

  2. To be honest I don't think this routine is going to give you what you
    are looking for.
This routine looks like something that has been pulled from a
bodybuilding magazine, written by an established bodybuilder on the
    circuit.

If you are looking to gain mass then the best way is to stick to the
basics compound movements which simply have to involve benching,
deadlifts and squats. I also see that although you are doing a lot of
work with this during the four days and burning a lot of calories (and
more likely overtraining thus why you see no gains), that there is no
cardio work included, which will be the element more likely to shed
    that beer belly.

Below is the routine which is designed for mass development. And if you
strictly take your sets to failure, eat a cart load of protein
everyday, get plenty of rest by having taking proper rest days then you
will gain size. Remember that alcohol is a sure way to reduce /
negatively impact on the gains you sweat so hard for.

    Day 1
    Back - Deadlift** 3 sets x 6-8 reps
    Shoulders - Military Press** 3 sets x 6-8 reps
    Lateral Raises 3 sets x 6-8 reps
    Barbell Shrugs 3 sets x 6-8 reps
    Biceps - Barbelll Curls** 3 sets x 6-8 reps
    Incline Dumbell Curls 3 x sets x 6-8 reps
    Abs - Leg raises 2 sets x 20 reps
    Crunches 2 sets x 20 reps

    Day 2
    Cardio Day

    Day 3
    Chest - Bench Press** 3 sets x 6-8 reps
    Dumbell Flyes 3 sets x 8-10 reps
Triceps - Overhead Dumbell Press** 3 sets x 6-8 reps
    Pushdowns 3 sets x 8-10 reps
    Legs - Squats** 4 sets x 6-8 reps
    Extensions 3 sets x 8-10 reps
    Leg Curls** 3 sets x 6-8
Calves - Standing calf raises 3 sets x 8-10 reps
Seated calf raises 3 sets x 8-10 reps

    Day 4
    Cardio

    Day 5
    Rest

    Then resume from Day 1.

** 2 warm up sets should be performed before actual working sets.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Overall I think your plan looks pretty good. If you are looking to
lose the gut you will probably need to do more cardio. If you are
looking to toughen your gut you will probably need to do more ab work.
If you want to get in really good shape you might want to join a boxing
gym, you might not gain size but your conditioning will improve.

I am a fan of the two day split and have had good results splitting up
with a (chest and tricep) workout and a (leg and back) workout. My
arms get a tough workout doing all the compound exercises so the only
thing I do for biceps, forearms, and wrists is reverse curls. I lift
weights about two or three times a week. I think that the extra time
between workouts helps with muscle growth for me. I also do a lot of
    other training other than weightlifting.

Day 1 looks pretty good for a chest and tricep workout. I would
probably suggest dips instead of dumbell bench since you already do
bench and dumbell incline. Be careful so that the dips don't hurt your
shoulders and if they do, stop doing them. On days that you want to do
dumbell bench just swap it with bench press. I would swap in barbell
incline too sometimes since I feel like I get a better chest workout
    from barbell lifts.

    standing barbell curls
    dumbell curls

Day 2: Since you are on a 4 day split these look okay for back/bicep
work. Throw in some pullups too since these are tough and good. I
think that reverse curls should be in there too, I would remove one or
two of your other curl exercises to put in the reverse curls. I also
feel like you should be working hard enough on the rows, pulldowns, and
pullups that you probably don't need this many curl exercises. I
figure two curl exercises at most, as I said I like to only do the
reverse curl. I focus on overall strength and have never noticed that
my biceps have prevented me from doing more deadlifts, pullups,
    pulldowns, etc.

    Barbell Shoulder Press
    Dumbbell Arnold Press
    Dumbbell Front Raise

Day 3: I have actually thrown in some shoulder stuff on off days
sometimes since I am so tired after dips that I often skip them. These
look good. I am assuming that you do cardio after lifting. I would
always recommend this so that you are fresh when you lift. Maybe
drink/eat a little protein with a sports drink right after the lifting
    and before cardio.

    squats
    seated leg press
    deadlift
    stiff leg deadlift
    standing calf raise (smith machine)

Day 4: I am assuming that this is your toughest day. My favorite lift
is the deadlift since I feel like it has been the biggest contributor
to my gains. I don't do the leg press since it actually feels harder
on my knees than squats. I like squats too but do them after deadlift
so I am pretty tired during them. I do deadlift first since it uses
    the most muscles for me.

    Sounds good to me.
Ever tried 3 sets of 8, or 4 sets of six, *short* of failure?

Drop the last exercise. For a while...

    Barbell Shoulder Press

    Dumbbell Front Raise

Is doable. Try shrugs instead of front raises.
    Try to add upright rows.

Maybe you should consider another split.
    Something like Back/Shoulders, Chest/upper arms, Legs/Abs.

Drop the deadlift. Yes, thats right, i said "drop the deadlift."
You are allready doing squats, and you do 2 rowing motions on back day.
There are no muscles being hit with the deadlift that are allready hit with
    squats/rows. Drop them.

Add leg extensions/curls. These will help the squats and SL deads.

Forget about losing fat for a while. Try to get stronger and bigger first,
then slowly focus on dropping a few calories here and there.
