  1. Hello first post here used to frequent alt.sport.weightlifting back in the
day. So I like to snack, before I went on a diet I used to munch on bags
of potatoe chips went throught a bag in 2 nites. I switched to just
munching on cereal and cut soda and lost 60lbs in the last 24 months. I
fear that maybe even cereal is preventing me from losing another 10lbs that
I want to lose. I try to pick a cereal that has low sugar 3g or less like
cheerios or kixs. I eat a box in about 2-3 nites. Right now I'm 6' 1"
178lbs I want to lose the bit of fat covering my lower abs, I estimate about
10lbs or less I need to lose. I just want something that I can munch on
that doesn't have so many carbs and calories. It can taste like cardboard,
I dont care about taste I just want something that I can constantly grab
handfuls of and eat all nite.

Most raw green veggies will work.
Things like celery, broccoli, zuchinni strips, lettuce, cauliflower,
    chard, escarole, etc.

There are some low calorie dressings on the market you can dip them in,
but try to avoid any that have sugar in them.

Beef jerky is another good bet too, but it's a bit high in salt for my
    personal taste.

More likely lack of or not enough exercise is preventing you from
reaching your goal - step it up. You do exercise right? Also, you cant
spot reduce the fat off of one area either it comes off all over
whether we like it or not and your abs will probably be the last place
it will finally come off of (first place on, last place off typically).
Besides snacking on cereal (look at the fiber content not just the
sugar btw) whats the rest of your eating like in a typical day? If the
rest of your daily food intake is healthy/well rounded I wouldnt worry
    about your snacking habit.

  5. I recommend the green veggie munchie trick. I've had success with it.

I've been liking Wasabi Peas from Trader Joe's for munchies.

    Air-popped popcorn sprayed with "I can't believe it's not butter" is a
    good low-cal snack, too.

I'd stay away from cereal if you're cutting.

Are you serious? You've GOT to cut calories if you want to get abs to show.

Ah, but [censored] is absolutely a unisex term.

Not necessarily, you need to lower your bodyfat (but you cant spot
reduce as I mentioned), and lowering your bodyfat doesnt always mean
    cutting calories more.

Ever try this in practice: keep calories constant but add two hours
extra exercise? You can't really do it because you need the calories to
    fuel the added exercise.

In practice it's a whole lot easier to cut 500 calories than to add a
    third 500 calorie/day workout.

Believe me. I've tried it. The truth sucks, but it still remains the
truth: you've got to eat less.

And those calories come from the fat your body would burn during the
added exercise. How long do you perform cardio at a clip? I suspect
you climb off the treadmill at 30 minutes which is before you'd start
burning fat. Is pubmed YOUR friend?

Dally, you can't put your slow metabolism on every other person on the
planet. Eat about five times a day. Some people have shown excellent
results by eating every four hours. They never get hungry and by doing
so they train their metabolism t speed up and keep working. Eat
    smaller meals, but balanced meals.

The OP isnt currently on a significant calorie reduced diet and has
*maybe* 10lbs to lose (if that) and wants to lose the 'lower ab fat'.
He didnt mention doing any daily exercise in his original post. Yes,
being able to 'fuel' your exercise is important, but that depends on
what kind of exercise you choose to do too. I think he's safe with some
basic exercises like lifting weights with some form of cardio - he isnt
running marathons or biking up a mountain where he needs additional
fuel to get himself thru it.

Just cutting calories does not always make you lose bodyfat (especially
where you want it to). He could cut 500 calories a day and lose those
ten pounds scale weight and still have a pooch on his abs. He needs to
exercise (more intense if necessary) and increase it/change it if need
be. He could even (oh the contradiction!) eat more, gain some muscle
and still lose bodyfat! Strange but true.

Not necessarily is what I am saying. Increasing your activity makes it
so you can eat more (than you think you can) and actually weigh less.
Its a combo of eating right/healthy that is key.
For example a friends page about eating less being a bobsled to hell:
    http://skwigg.tripod.com/id27.html and her eating page:
