If you're not inches-picky, Corningware still should have their 5x5"
dishes with plastic snap-tops that aren't too snug for microwave use,
but the tops cannot go into the regular oven. I use my two regularly
for freezing to re-bake single-serving casserole dishes. I also got
two extra of the Corningware round, six-inch "pots" with glass lids
(with single, potlike handles) on Ebay a few years back, and for a very
inexpensive amount.

Hi Liz... I got mine off eBay.com and they are Corningware with glass
lids. They can not only go into the microwave but also the oven. Mine
come in 1 qt, 2 qt. and 3 qt. sizes. Check it out.. I think you'll be
pleased.

BTW, if those dishes were like corning, bleach would have cleaned them.

I use a paste of baking powder. It's a mild abrasive and keeps my
corning ware spotless. I've had some of them since the mid sixties. It
also does well on plain glass casserole dishes if they need it......

Powder? Not soda? Bicarb of soda is sometimes recommended as a
toothpowder because of its abrasive nature.

If you know what the volume of your container was, look for that
equivalent instead of the shape. Depending on the depth of your dead
casserole, sounds like it could be about a quart.

If you container was 6" x 6" and 1.6" deep (inside dimensions)then it
is a 1 quart container.

I still don't understand why someone would throw away a favorite
useable, but shabby cookware.... before figuring out if it could be
easily replaced.
