Memorial Day is set aside to remember and honor those who have died while
serving in the U.S. armed forces. I consider myself fortunate that I spent
fourteen years in the Navy through the 1980's and 1990's, including three
tours to the Persian Gulf (which became known as the "Arabian Gulf" for
political reasons during my service), and NONE of my shipmates died. So I
honor those who have died in service to my country, but the holiday isn't as
personal for me as it could be -- and I'm glad for that.

(But even though I'm no longer on active duty, I'm still in a military
environment: After I finish feeding my fourteen guests, I'll be waddling off
to work a twelve-hour shift as contractor support of ongoing combat
operations.)

Sounds interesting! Please expand on this one...... cut up potatoes
(marinated in an herb-garlic mixture) roasted on a kebab? I have all

I found some country style ribs on sale for 99¢ lb, so we're having
that today. Bob's margarita chicken sounds delicious although I'm not
finding a recipe that doesn't call for margarita mix.

Margarita mix is bad stuff, both for the drinks and for the chicken.
Instead, I brown chicken pieces well, then flame and deglaze the pan
with tequila. Add garlic, onion if desired, lime zest, lime juice and
triple sec. Some minced jalapeño, occasionally. A little chicken
stock if necessary to have enough liquid. Simmer till done. Pretty
good. -aem
