  1. I have a recipe for Mandarin orange chicken that calls for frozen oj
concentrate, thawed. I only have regular oj with lots of pulp. How
would I adapt? Simmer it to concentrate it? ....tia....Sharon

I'll have to adapt the recipe. I just spent 2 hrs this morning
grocery shopping and I'm not going back....lol.... The recipe calls for
chicken bouillion cubes disolved in water. I'll put them into the oh
instead..... One question though....I never use concentrated oj...what
would a 6 oz. can make up to? ..........Sharon

    12 ounces. It's 1:1 ratio.

It's been a while since I've mixed frozen orange juice, but I
remember it being 3 cans water to 1 can concentrate. 6oz frozen
    would make 24 ounces reconstituted.

Yep, 3 cans cold water... before anyone asks I've already done 3 cans
cold vodka... not bad. I guess you can call that an OJ Killer. :o

Most liquor stores carry frozen OJ concentrate, get a few cans, and
some vodka while there... no waiting. Even gas station convenience
    stores carry frozen OJ concentrate.

If you attempt to reduce regular OJ you will no longer have something
    that tastes like OJ.

more than you ever wanted to know about orange juice from concentrate.

The finished food is of such concentration that when diluted according
to label directions the diluted article will contain not less than 11.8 percent
by weight of orange juice soluble solids, exclusive of the solids of any added
optional sweetening ingredients. The dilution ratio shall be not less than
3 plus 1. For the purposes of this section and §146.150, the term
"dilution ratio" means the whole number of volumes of water per volume
of frozen concentrate required to produce orange juice from concentrate
having orange juice soluble solids of not less than 11.8 percent by weight
exclusive of the solids of any added optional sweetening ingredients

Reply to all....I tricked out the recipe and it's ready to be plated
now. It tastes pretty good even with just reg oj. Thanks to all. If
dh likes it, I'll be sure to get some concentrated juice....Sharon

Wouldn't it say on the can anyhow? And yes, it's 3 cans water to 1 can
    frozen O.J. 🙂

I didn't have any. I used reg oj with lots of pulp. It turned out
ok. DH liked it, but it should have had a more intense orange taste. If
I had used oj in the rice instead of water it would have been better
too. I'll be sure to get the frozen concentrate before I do it
    again. ....Sharon

If you have a fresh orange, use the zest to add a more intense orange
taste. Try about 1 tablespoon of orange zest.

Guess I'm going to federal prison for under-diluting frozen
    orange juice then.

I know it's too late and you've gotten responses already, but my first time
trying a recipe I wouldn't try to vary it. After that, whatever adaptations
you discover are up to you. I also agree with another poster who suggested
orange zest might have helped to increase the taste up to the frozen
    concentrate flavour 🙂

Thanks Jill. I didn't have any oranges, but I do have some dried
orange peel (grated) from the bulk food store. I didn't even think
about that when I was cooking. I'll keep all these things in mind when
I make it again. It was a hit just as it was, but I think it could have
    had more orange flavour. .....Sharon

Hey, it's always hit or miss around my house 🙂 At least it was well
recieved! Next time you'll remember the dried grated peel if you don't have
frozen concentrated OJ on hand! In fact, since you have that, and
apparently you keep orange juice around for drinking, it might be the better
(more economical) way to go next time. I'm not sure what quantity of the
dried grated peel to use but I'd start with a 1/4 tsp. and work my way up
    (tasting as you go).
