  1. I use a TBSP of flaxseed oil in my smoothies. I have been purchasing
bottles from Whole Foods because they are refrigerated, and FO is very
perishable. I noticed 16 oz bottles of FO at Trader Joe's for about
$8, and I'm wondering if anyone has either a +/- experience with them.
I once purchased some unrefrigerated FO in a pinch from a discount
store, and found that while it smelled fine it did have an unusual
taste versus what I was used to. Thanks for any info.

  2. One point of clarification -- the FO at my Trader Joe's is not kept
chilled, and my concern is that it may be hit and miss in terms of
    freshness.

  3. I take 2 tablespoons a day. I've gotten accustomed to the taste, and use it
in salad dressings (with a little bit of lemon juice or cider vinetar), in
addition to any protein drinks/smoothies I make.

It is designed to be kept in the refrigerator after opening.

Personally, I feel better about these types of oils if they are kept
refrigerated at the store, but truth be told, you can never really know how
they were handled prior to getting to the store.

  5. I saw that stuff a while back. I wouldn't touch it, personally. Flaxseed oil
is very fragile stuff, and oxidizes (goes rancid) quite fast, especially at
higher temperatures and/or in the presence of oxygen. Once opened, it will
gradually oxidize even in the refrigerator.

I just get the whole seeds and grind and use as needed. That plus fish and
greens should do it with respect to omega 3 needs. I have gotten flax oil in
the past, but I got small bottles of Barleans, which is properly stored
refrigerated at the store and at home.

IME, those are expensive bottles, too. I have 3 in my frig now of their
    fish O.

We don't have any TJs here, so we routinely pay high prices at the HFS.

  7. I bought the TJ's FO off the shelf in July and am still using it in my smoothies and the nutty flavor is still wonderful. I have kept it refrigerated !!! Caroline
