Missed you by a day, I walked Cadair Idris on Thursday and it was boiling
hot with no breeze what-so-ever.

Missed you by a day, I walked Cadair Idris on Thursday and it was boiling
hot with no breeze what-so-ever.

We only met about half a dozen other walkers on the hill - *trying* to
enjoy a quiet day.

We walked up the Pony Path, one instructor and my classroom assistant
leading a group of 12, and me following with a group of 8. 7 children
and the other instructor walked across to the lake and spent the day
there. Each child had a 1 litre water bottle, I carried 2 litres for
myself and a 5 litre carrier.

My group stopped 3 times for lunch, a sandwich at the top of the zig
zag (SH691135), another sandwich above the lake (SH704131) and the
rest of our lunch on the summit. Our two summit groups met up at the
top of the Foxes Path, where the advance party was having lunch and we
descended from there. I wouldn't have descended the Foxes Path with
children on my own. The rocks were very loose and it was slow going.

At the lake we met the third group and the children paddled, one even
swam and my water load soon became much lighter.

One child suffered a horrible blister on her heel, she was wearing two
pairs of socks, as she had been told, but wore a thin pair of ankle
socks over her thick socks, and it had rolled even lower, causing a
monster blister. I put a large plaster on it and strapped it with
plaster tape, and that made it bearable for her, but after paddling it
came off and another instructor replaced it with a much smaller
plaster which wasn't strapped into place, so the entire blister burst
and the skin came off.

After coming off the hill we all went swimming, much to the annoyance
of the Machynlleth Leisure Centre staff and users.

When you say foxes path do you mean the Minffordd path??
or were you going to Llyn y Gadair.
Have never heard of the foxes path, and I live nr Cadair (Can see it
from feild)

The Foxes Path goes from the hotel at SH704158, past Llyn y Gadair to
just below the summit at SH713132.

The Foxes Path is mentioned here, though I have no idea what the
article is saying!

Madyn is either a misprint (typo) or a corruption of an old Welsh Word
for Fox - Madryn

I am thinking about taking dd (7) up and am wondering which route would
be best I have only done minffordd befor!
She went to the lake at 3 and most of the way up Cnicht this year only
stopped because partner who we had dropped off in Blaenau got to us
befor we got to the top!!

I walked (if that's the right word) up that one only once and must have
missed a turn somewhere. It got worse and worse and scramblier and
scramblier, and when I reached the top I noticed that I didn't come out
where people started their descent...

Hope the girl with the megablister isn't put off by that experience!

Minffordd is by far the best view-wise. From the summit you can go east
along the main ridge around the hollow with Llyn y Cau in it and then
descend to meet the Minffordd path again just below the lake. There is
one stream to cross right at the end which could be tricky for a little
one.
