I've just been sent a tracklogs route, supposedly a trl file attachment.
What actually came through is a long list of letters and numbers that bear
no relation to any tracklogs file I've ever seen.
Neither GPSU or Tracklogs will accept this list. Anyone know what I've got,
and how to deal with it?
(The guy who sent it isn't interested!)

Are you trying to open it with File, Open in Tracklogs? If it doesn't
open like that I expect it is either corrupted or not a Tracklogs file.
I hope they didn't change the Tracklogs file format between version 2
and version 3 of Tracklogs but that is also a possible source of
incompatibility.Quoted message said:

programming. Either way I'm not impressed. Not being able to use the mapping from V2 with V3 is understandable
given the OS licensing requirements but being unable to save user data
from V3 to be used with V2 is indefensible :-(--

I have to load gps files into V2, then save as trl and import into GPSU.
There really should be an export facility in the program, but i'm not going
to get on my soapbox about that again.T Dave R

I've not tried it, but the history file claims the ability to import
Tracklogs ver 3 files was added in GPSU ver 4.20.3.--

Phil HughesI'm using 4.20.5, and that doesn't do it unfortunately (despite the claim on
the website).Very unfortunate, as i was considering registering. I might email them and
ask what they can do about it, as it's stopping me from registering (i
cannot import the file format i want to import, making it useless). As i'm
essentially using it free atm, i've no right to moan at them!I think that Tracklogs v3 has extra information in the files, such as extra
legs to the walk that gives GPSU a headache.
I've not used these features, but i still get a file in which half the
points are nonsense when loaded into V2. Started off by manually moving the
points, but it seems faster to either do the track from scratch in V2 or
import directly from GPS if that's available.T Dave R

Murphy is very responsive to issues with GPSU. Certainly it has been
under regular and continuous development. It may be be that there are issues of reverse engineering needed to work
out the tracklog version 3 file format if the specification of the
format isn't made available. The other issue to raise is with the programmers of tracklogs. Why can't
they have an export in older formats for users to exchange data? This is a big issue with longevity of personal data. How useable will
your data be in a few years time, particularly if the developer of the
software starts to remove some of the backwards compatibility ?At least with tracklog data processed through GPSU it can be stored in a
format that is easily understood, even in a vanilla text editor or
spreadsheet.Mike

The beta version of Tracklogs 3.12.0 (available for download now) can import and export in gpx
format (and also Maptech formats). They are looking for early feedback before unleashing the final
product, which is welcome. There is something basically wrong though. I've tried importing a .gpx route file that was exported
from MM (which has had gpx capability since V5). Tracklogs seems to accept it with no error message
and a new entry appears in the routes, but the route is empty - no objects at all.I exported a route from Tracklogs in gpx format and compared it with MMs exported gpx file.
Superficially it bears some resemblance, but there are major differences.Tracklogs imports a .rxf route from MM successfully and all the points are there.

has some export formats which might help:"Support for the following file formats has been added to improve
interoperability with other GPS software. GPS Interchange Format (GPX),
MapTech Marker Format (MXF), MapTech Route Format (RXF). Note that GPX
file format includes both v1.0 and v1.1. Saved GPX files are generated in
v1.1 format."I've been using the beta for a couple of weeks without any problems.

Ha, the plot thinckens.
My exported files (.gpx, mxf etc ) are empty when read in MemoryMap,
Tracklogs and GPSU.Easy GPS recognised the gpx file and Tracklogs imports my gpx files, no
problem. The gpx files were created with GPSU or just created with
Tracklogs.Memory map does not recognise either mxf or rxf files. I tend to have to
export from GPSU in txf for the tracklogs anyway, so this looks like an
mistake on Tracklogs part.So as Geoff says, there's something basically wrong with this.
