Hi there,
It's been a while since I last posted - I lost interest in the group after
Paul Saunders slowed down his posting... ;-) Though I've been lurking of
course...
I had knee surgery a month ago (ruptured my quadricep, tendons, and ligament
damage when tripping off an escalator back in October!) and have a full
length cast on my leg for another 3 weeks, and then will have a leg brace on
for another 6 weeks after that. For those who aren't squeamish, here's a
picture of my knee just before I got the staples out a few weeks ago:

Anyway, given that I'm a bit disabled at the moment so can't do much
walking, I'm posting for some ideas for nice viewpoints that are accessible
by car? Anywhere in northern England (Lakes, Yorkshire, Lancashire etc) or
north Wales is comfortable drive (as a passenger) for me at the moment. As
long as I can park up close by (like within 50 yards or so) and it's easily
accessible on crutches, and of course, it's a pretty photogenic viewpoint,
then that's all I'm after.
A week ago, we drove to Derwentwater and parked up in a small car park there
just off the B5289 (roughly NY266195 , which was perfect) - it was a pretty
view just a few yards from the car and I managed to hobble towards the water
on my crutches and take a few photos. We then drove on to Buttermere and
that was quite pretty too, though I couldn't really get near to the water as
there was a fence beside the road that I couldn't find an easy way through.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd much appreciate them. I tend to do my walking
in my local area but now that I can't walk, I'm finding it's a good excuse
to venture further afield for the nicer scenery so that I can make the best
of it, and of course, get some ideas for proper walks once I'm back to full
health!
Thanks,
Stephen
