  1. Im thinking about taking up cycling (road racing), but Im worried that my size will limit my ability to be competetive. Most cyclists that I see are short to average height and compact. Im trim and fit at 6'2", 190lbs, broad shoulders, plenty of muscle. How much will this limit my ability to be competive against more compact, streamlined, lighter cyclists? Thanks for your advice.

Yes, there are 4-5 guys near your height among the 100's of pros. Among other things they are endowed with great cardiovascular systems and their ability to sprint very well allows them to make a living.

You can still look to be competitive in races without major hills, and perhaps on the track. Get on the start line.

  6. Worst case senario, you could be a big wind cutter for some little guy like me !!! 😄

  7. Or, after three years of good cycling (and laying off of the weights) you shed muscle mass and end up a 180 lb rouleur...think like Cancellara.

  8. Thanks for all of the advice. Just what I needed to convince myself to take the plunge. Thanks again!

  9. Get out and train.....that excess bulk will melt off you.

    Enjoy!
