Has anyone every taken their car along their reqular route and done a little road clean up. At about 4 miles from the end of my normal route on a busy four lane road with a nice bike lane there is a relatively short stretch that is just full of junk from branches to a bunch of large gravel, even a big patch of sand (maybe someone dumped a bag of it? - there is enough stuff there that you really have to go out into a 45mph lane (that everyone does 65 mph on).
Is it riduculous for me to go out and clean that up?? Just wondering if anyone else has ever done this? I'm still seriously considering taking the broom and a garbage bag out there today...

[font='Times New Roman'][font=Comic Sans MS] I regularly clean up the coastline where we holiday, cutting out fishing line retrieving hooks and sinkers and collecting hooks and collecting the bottles and trash the rock and surf fishermen leave behind. Sometimes the same fishermen look at me as if I’m a nutter, I’ve learned confrontation doesn’t necessary educate them. So I just do it as my contribution to keeping the area tidy.[/font] [/font]
Theres a route I would ride on team rides. One day we got in a van with a ton of brooms and drove the route. When we found a bad spot, everyone jumped out and a bunch of us would sweep. We would hop back in and drive to the next spot. Made taking corners much safer.

I am the "Adopt-A-Highway" coordinator for my church. The section we clean also happens to be the start and end point for several charity rides in the area. 🙂
Great idea. Most folks seem to think it's other people's responsibility, but it isn't. I like to leave everywhere I go a little better than when I arrived.
In our community our cycle group, the capital city cyclopaths, do work days once a month to clean up and maintain the trails. Once you've spent a few hours picking up other people's trash I guarantee you will not be inclined to litter. I can't imagine being that thoughtless, but apparently many people can't or won't get the big picture.
