  1. Hi,
Im heading out for my first ride of this year tommorow morning, i am looking forward to it and also dreading it as i havent been out for 9 months due to injuries, managed to get 5 months decent riding in last year before i had a hernia appear and ruin it all for me.
Im planning on about 20-30 miles for tommorows ride depending on how i feel, any advice for what speeds etc. i should be looking at maintaining, going to try and stay at 60-70% of my mhr. Or should i just ignore facts and figures and just try and just get on my bike and ride?

    Thanks.

    Welcome back.

Get on your bike and ride...🙂

    Enjoy...

  3. Keep an eye on any setbacks for your injury. If you ever even feel slightly that there might be a problem back off. Injury setbacks are the worse. They not only reinjure you physically but also mentally. Use and trust your intuition.

Do the regular(and more) warmups, stretching...etc. Once out for a while I have noticed that I always forget atleast one thing. Like filling up the water bottle or stretching...etc. So pay attention. Also pay more attention to traffic. Those first rides either tend to be so good that you get into the zone or then so consuming that you are struggling to make it and dont pay attention to other things.

    Good luck!

Pick as FLAT a route as you can map out ...

  5. Cheers guys, well its time to put my money were my mouth is, its weird having cycling shorts on again.

If i fail miserably i will let you all know. Thanks again.

  6. Be careful mate. Last years i injured one of my upper leg muscules, decided that one week of rest should do the trick, but it didn't. It ended right there. (And that was in the middle of august). When i got back on my bike in february i was still hoping that the injury had gone 🙄

  7. It all went ok, managed a 20 mile spin in about 1hour 20mins (not quick, but im happy just to be back out). It was a lovely morning too, but still we had wind (i live in northern ireland, even when the weathers good its not great).

Only problem was my new hrm beeping at me all the time, i seem to have spent most of my time at about 82% of my max (although its max worked out by subtracting from my age, so its not greatly accurate). All in all it went well and i feel good no pains in my knees or groin.

    Thanks again.

Good to hear that! Recover well before the next ride and have fun!
