  1. I saw recently that some research was done that showed that Lactic Acid is possibly there to _help_ the muscles. Some guy used a frog's leg muscle and electrically stimulated it repeatedly. When LA was introduced as the muscle flagged, it showed _stronger_ response. The idea is that we have been seeing the pain always associated with LA buildup, and assumed it caused the pain. However it may be a response to pain that is trying to help.

Add to that the fact that LA is fermented in our bodies from Lactose, and the article I just saw showing that a good old glass of milk is just as good or better than an energy drink becomes interesting.

    Banana milkshake anyone? 🙂

  2. I don't ride competitively enough that Lactic Acid becomes an issue. But a link to the article or a reference as to where you saw it would interest me.

Dnag! Hit a tab button or something.

OK. Blimey! You are lucky I am still _watching_ this thread! <G>

However, IMO it is not only comp riders etc who need to know about LA. I don't compete, except with myself, but I often hit that burning barrier on a day when I find a new hill to hate, especially in the calf and quadricep muscles.

I first saw it as "new" on TV, but soon found it was not. Google for "lactic acid" or "lactate" to see heaps of stuff both of the old school, and of the new. I reposted this discussion:
Thread was "Try again, Lactose: New thoughts?" in Cycling Training.

  5. Might be referring to this, a friend passed this on:

    Interesting thought.
