My head is unencumbeed by hair. I have a real reason to be concerned about melanoma, so I always wear a coolmax headsweat under my helmet. I am wondering now if I am helping or hindering cooling by wearing one.
thanks

Personally, I find the cool max skull cap to help immensly in keeping my head cooler. I have a 30 times greater chance of getting skin cancer than most people, so I also use a visor on my bike helmet.
Enjoy the ride!
I always wear some kind of skull cap
1. keeps sun off scalp
2. keeps head cooler
3. helps in sweat management
4. makes me feels like a bad as biker dude
ditto... I wear an under armour skull cp... keeps me warm in t winter and cool in the summer
It only protects your scalp, but what about your ears and nose. That’s why I where a heavy leather cowboy hat.🙂
One day after cycling my personal trainer commented that I had sun burn patches on my head. Since then I have taken to wearing a bandana which deals with my sweat as well.
I have not noticed a difference between no bandana & bandana apart from sweat absorbtion and no sun burn on head
I still have hair, but I wear a headsweat under my helmet just to keep the sweat off of my face. Cooling doesn't seem better or worse.
The pros often wear hats under their helmets to keep the sun off them. I have several headbands to keep the sweat out my eyes plus I use sunscreen on my face, neck, arms, and on my head where there's no hair.

I don't wear a helmet, I wear
a baseball cap. And only in my
55th year have I started using
sunscreen.
The hat keeps the sweat under
the hat, and keeps the sun off
the chrome dome.
This is a good info thread for me.. The better half did tell me that she thinks I'm getting burned thru the holes in the helmet - probably not as bad as I normally do, but I'm going to look into the stuff mentioned here..
thanks mark for bringing this up!!🙂

 you put sunscreen on your head... I did that before I bought bandana's and geeze did my eye's STING. Never again did I put sunscreen on my head when cycling. Sweat and sunscreen do not mix and I was typically stopping and cleaning my glasses 4x on a 50km cycle and now with bandana I do not have to do that 🙂
I still have a full head of hair that covers my ears and back of my neck, my brother on the other hand is folliclaly challenged, needless to say he does the light bandana under his helmet and sunscreen on his neck and ears.
On our night ride recently he wore a beanie under his helmit, complaining of the cold air that rushes through the ventilation holes freezing his noggin. I suggested a piece of newspaper like the homeless guys use to keep off the cold.
